Spirituality and How to Know What To Ask AA For

Reverend Stephanie Sorensen said recently at the Life Enrichment Center in Flint, MI: “Someone said the other day: “’I love waking up to the smell of the Universe conspiring on my behalf.’ Life is good when we let it be. We’re here to enjoy it and bring our joy to it. We’re not here to be confused and miserable, or to do what we don’t want to do until we die or we’re old enough to retire. Our life theme song doesn’t need to be ‘Poor Poor Pitiful Me.’ It can be ‘Alleluia.’ We live in a Universe that loves us and all that is required of us is to allow It to. To let it heal us and reveal to us all that is good, beautiful and true within us and the world around us.” As the line from the old song I Got Rhythm goes, ‘Who could ask for anything more?’

Even better than having to say the shortened version of the 3rd Step, “God Help Me,” is being able to say “Thank you, God!” Since I not only was introduced to AA but also bought into the Program all the way, my blessings have become way too numerous to count. All this from someone who came to you folks on my knees begging only for a little bit of hope. Not even knowing what to ask for!

Google would have a difficult time counting all that I now consider blessings. I didn’t even know what I really wanted from AA at first but my needs were taken care of and this led me to see that I really have no pressing wants anymore. Blessings seem to be chasing me around, tapping me on the shoulder regularly. Now, all that I want is to be able to let as many others as possible know that, whatever hole they are in, no matter how deep or dark it is, there is a way out. That, and we, you and I, are ready, able, and willing to show them how.

I owe everything to AA. AA introduced me to Spirituality. Spirituality led me to meeting and being greeted by you all. And you all just keep on blessing me each and every day with just the thought of you, when I can not actually see you. Going back to I Got Rhythm, “Who could ask for anything more?” The 11th Step even tells us just what to ask for. It says: Praying ONLY for the knowledge of His will for me and the power to carry it out. God bless you!
