I firmly believe all beings have a message that everyone would gain a lot from hearing right from birth into this human experience. How do we discover just what our message is? It may start out as I’m hungry. I am in pain. Happy. I am afraid. Finally evolve to I love you. It can be expressed in any language. Any gesture. All kinds of smiles. Any kind of grimace. Any sound. Even silence. I can understand exactly what my Greyhound, Oreo, is messaging me with. For this, I think and say “Thank you God!”
Recently, I had a conversation with a good friend from the AA program. I told him that I firmly believed that I had a message to get out. I believed that there were probably some others who could use some of my experiences to improve their own lives. This was not said, or even thought of, in any way, shape, or form to imply that I have all of the answers. Only that my life has been so very full of experiences, both great and horrendous. Now, I am now happy, joyous, and free!
I have taken the guilt and shame for the actions and inactions that harmed so many others. Then, I tried my best to use them as a message for helping others who feel just as hopeless as I had.
My friend asked me just what my message was and then put a qualifier on it. “Say it in 3 words!” WOW! This stopped me but only for a brief moment. Quickly was said the shortened version of the 3rd Step. Simply saying “God, help me.” He very quickly did and I thought “THANK YOU GOD!” Look! This is not only a good thing to do in a situation like this. but look! It is also only 3 WORDS! I then realized that this has been my message for years, now, only I never realized it before. “Thank you God” has been my message!
My response to almost everything that happens to or around me is and has been for a long time merely saying “Thank you, God!” From the most emotional message to the most mundane. “Thank you, God!” So, every piece that I write or say or do is all to further say “Thank you, God!”
I pray this to be not just something that I do or use occasionally. I want this to be my message to myself and anyone else who will listen. “Thank you, God!” It is a part of my lifestyle now. Just as embedded as my breathing. This is something that I have been doing for quite a while now but now, thanks to that short conversation with a friend, it is what I pray that the entirety of my life will be. I want to share it with everyone with no exceptions. Do you want it? Take it. You don’t want it? Just let it go and move on. Now, the important question.
So, what is your message?
