Spirituality and How to Deal With Frustration

It is not as difficult as it sounds.

If you’ve never felt frustrated, better check for your pulse!

I believe that probably everyone has feelings of frustration at one time or another. It is a feeling that is just there like love, hate, appreciation, and disappointment.

So, what do you do to limit your exposure to frustration?

I suggest going to the shortened version of the 3rd Step and simply saying “God help me.” It couldn’t be much simpler than that. Notice that I didn’t say it was easy.

Not easy because we have had a lifetime of facing frustration and either working through it or succumbing to the “poor me” feelings that it can bring about.

Successful people work their way through their frustrations, knowing that they will only come out stronger or better for it.

I define a successful person as one who lives his or her life that has its share of frustrations and remains Happy, Joyous, and Free.

Along these lines, an unsuccessful person is one who surrenders to the pull of their frustration and is miserable to themselves and others. What do I think should be done to push us toward success?

Start with a plan. It doesn’t have to be complicated or chock full of things to do. It could very well be just to start out each day with spiritual reading for a few minutes. My spiritual readings are on the commode in my bathroom.

Since this is the first place that I go upon awakening every day, this takes no extra time from my day. The 11th Step says to pray for the knowledge of His will for you and the power to carry it out.

I ask Him that Our will, not my will be done, though. Why Our will? Because, when my God and I are working together, my will is blended in with His will and He and I both know it, hence Our will be done.

Then, throw in Step 3 which says “Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.” Just say “God, take it,” and go on about your day.

When this starts out my day, I remain in a wake-free zone, with no rough waters to float in. Difficult situations arise but are not roadblocks anymore, just “slow-down” signs.

Complicated

Don’t complicate simple living with the words like but, what if, ya but, and similar. It is what it is and if it is me, I can change if I choose. If it is outside me at all, I can not really change it no matter what I choose.

This keeps me from beating my head against the wall about something that I really have no say in.

As long as I have a plan for my day, even one as simple as “God, help me,” and then do the next right thing, I am Happy, Joyous, and Free. Thank you, God!
