is a beautiful quote from Mary Oliver
I saw this Mary Oliver quote in a wonderful article by Kunal Mehra in Medium. It yanked at my heart right away. What a wonderful way to live and show your love of life.
I have been blessed to have met a lot of truly amazing people wherever I have gone. I am continually blessed because of the people that I meet and learn from from all walks of life.
I have seen and learned how to truly love from the homeless, the alcoholics, the addicts, the streetwalkers, and the down-on-their-luck people that I work with in the St. Andrews Soup Kitchen, on Flint, MI’s East Side.
They take care of each other and expect nothing in return.
This is in addition to the fabulous spiritual advice that I receive regularly from my spiritual advisor, Reverend Stephanie Sorensen, and great friend, Father Jay Gantz.
There are people who come to the soup kitchen for the first time that, if you leave your phone lying on a table for 3 seconds, it will be gone. Just as if it took a poof pill. Then regulars will take the person outside and “explain” that this is not done here.
Then, the next time the person comes in, they will be playing with and showing love to an infant or small child. And the child giggling throughout.
Sometimes, when a youngster shows up in the kitchen on a bike and comes inside, someone steals the bike. One or more of our more “rugged” characters get on the case and soon the bike either is returned quickly or another in its place. Not the kind of love that one may think of but this is an act of love.
Love is shown in as many ways as there are beings in the universe. Don’t you just feel the vibes of the love that comes to you from people, dogs, cats, horses, and other beings? The list is endless
How do you see and recognize this love that comes from the universe? I suggest that you take the prompt from Mary Oliver “Pay attention, Be Astonished, and Tell About It.” Then, enjoy the feelings that you will have. Thank you, God!
