Alcoholism is an Equal Opportunity Destroyer — Fact

Rich? Too bad! Poor? Too bad! Professional? Too bad! Homeless? Too bad!

How old are you? You could be an alcoholic! How much are you worth? You could be an alcoholic! What gender are you? You could be an alcoholic! Do you live in a mansion or are you homeless? You could be an alcoholic!

Alcoholism knows no age, sex, color, bank balance, lifestyle, education, or lack of. If you are a human being, you could be an alcoholic!

Or do you believe that you are unique? Do you wonder if you’re really an alcoholic? Well, first, no one can tell you if you are an alcoholic or not. Only you can decide and do that. Amazing stuff, so far, huh?

I’ve been a member of AA for almost 46 years. During this time, I’ve shared AA tables with Federal and State judges. Also with convicted felons, and police officers too. Married, divorced, old, young, the homeless. the mega-rich, and those so poor that they can’t even afford to pay attention.

Let’s see what Alcoholism can and does give us.

  1. False friends (probably if you’re buying the next round, they’re a friend).
  2. False confidence.
  3. The ability to lie like a pro.
  4. Divorce.
  5. Children who do not want to be around you.
  6. Job loss.
  7. Repossessions.
  8. Forfitures.
  9. Cirrhosis of the liver.
  10. And the list goes on, and on, and on…………

WHAT’RE THE OPTIONS IF YOU’RE AT WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR VERY BOTTOM?

According to the Jellnick chart, if you’re at your very bottom you have three choices:

  1. Death
  2. Insanity/incarceration
  3. Recovery

SO LET’S CHOOSE RECOVERY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS

Let’s also be real about your recovery.

  1. You don’t always get your family back.
  2. You may not be welcome back to your job.
  3. You may not be able to recover any of your former possessions.

Why choose recovery, then?

  1. Because you wish to be happy, joyous, and free again (if you ever were before) You want and need peace of mind!
  2. You wish to be able to make all decisions and not worry if it is right or wrong.
  3. You wish to be able to think and do things without the help of a mind-altering substance.
  4. You wish to have people trust and believe you.
  5. You wish to be able to wake up from a night of sleep and feel refreshed, not puking and feeling guilty.
  6. You wish to wake up and not have to walk around your parked car to see if there is any damage from the night before.
  7. You wish to wake up and be able to remember what you did the night before, not dread hearing the phone ring or the knock at the door.
  8. You wish to wake up and not wonder where your fresh wounds came from.
  9. You wish to be able to see someone walking toward you and not fear what you said or did to them the night before.
  10. And the list goes on, and on, and on…………

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO CHOICES! WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE?

If your choice is recovery and you’re not sure what to do, contact me by commenting here or call your local AA Hotline. Also, stop by our Zoom AA Meeting, every M-F 3:00 PM EST, meeting ID 603 528 0704, PW 399778

Sobriety can be yours. And it is a whole lot more than just stopping drinking and/or drugging. If I can do it, YOU CAN TOO! Thank you, God!
