Serenity is a word that, although heard frequently, many times is difficult or impossible to obtain. If this is you, here is how you can go from chaos of the mind to being too blessed to be stressed. Will it be easy? Probably not. But, is it simple? Absolutely!
Begin by realizing that, if you had the answer for having peace, you would have done something about it by now.
Alcoholics Anonymous is the answer for so many. This Program has 12 Steps for recovery from Alcoholism. The beauty of the 12 Steps is that only half of the 1st Step even mentions alcohol. Everything else is about how to change your thinking. As important as not taking the first drink is to an alcoholic, it is only the beginning. Without the alcohol, we can better use our minds and find serenity. When we change our thinking, we change our lives.
Now the alcoholic and the troubled non-alcoholic are at the exact same place. The alcoholic that has stopped drinking and the troubled non-alcoholic are both attempting to discover how to ease a troubled mind and find peace of mind.
At this time, it is suggested that we come to believe that a Power, greater than ourselves, can and will help us if It is sought.
So, realizing that there is this Power that created the entire universe and all in it, we know that this Power would and could help us. How? By our turning our wills and lives over to the care of this Power, who I now choose to call God. This is all as simple as 1, 2, 3! 1 – I can’t. 2 – He can. 3 – I think I’ll let Him.
As long as we don’t confuse simple with easy, things now begin to change for the better. They also become easier. What do you have to do to get this peace and serenity? Just humbly ask Him!
