Step 2 states “Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.” At first I balked at this step because I didn’t want to think that I was insane. Then I thought of the kind of person I had become so that I was brought to my knees. I thought of the things that I had done and thought. With a clearer head than I had in a long time, I realized that a normal so-called sane person wouldn’t even think of doing even a small portion of the things that I did regularly and thought normal.
Then I watched others attributing the Spiritual portion of the program for feeling and doing so much better. In my innermost depths, I realized that there had to be a powerful existence out there. Why? Because the sunrises and sets were perfectly timed. The tree leaves changed color on a regular basis. Plus so many other examples of Divine Direction that were appearing. Heartbeat and breathing without thought.
Over a period of time I thought “OK, there is a power of some kind out there and I want to tap into it. I have turned myself into a virtual train wreck and need change.” Now that I not only know but feel that there is a Higher Power of some sort, I wanted more. I have an addictive personality and so I wanted to tap into this power bigtime. I’m so addictive that if you offered me a pill and told me that it would cure my alcoholism, my first thought would be “I wonder what 2 would do!” So therefore, being willing to go to any lengths, I was able to accept that there was a Higher Power.
Now, my question became, how do I tap into this power? The answer to this and almost every other question that I have is going to be answerred simple. Just practice the 3rd Step. To simplify it even more, use the shortened version of the 3rd Step. To do this, simply, humbly say “God help me!” Then get out of His way and let Him. “Let go and let God!” See what I mean about this being a simple program for complicated folks? Nothing that I have done in learning about and using the 1st and 2nd Steps has changed my opinion on that.
KISS is an acronym that is HUGE. Keep It Simple Stupid! Please don’t try to complicate it because it really is simple. Not always easy, but simple. If you run into trouble with the first 2 Steps, uncomplicate it by just doing just what it suggests, not what you “think” it means. We have talked about head learning vs. heart learning. Don’t listen to the mental voices when they try to have you “study it and learn more about it.” JUST DO IT! The choice is yours. Choose wisely! God bless you!
